SUSTAINABILITY AND METAL BUILDINGS – ARE THEY COMPATIBLE?

SENATE CONSTRUCTION CORP

We know that metal buildings – particularly pre-engineered metal buildings – are a cost-effective and efficient choice for any new construction project. But, can they also are energy efficient and incorporate sustainable materials? In 2019, many owners and developers were interested in using green materials for their construction projects, particularly if they offer long-term environmental benefits and cost savings. Fortunately, not only are metal building systems compatible with sustainability, they are particularly well suited to achieving high levels of sustainability. Unfortunately, because metal buildings are often mischaracterized, most people think otherwise. We’re hoping to break that stigma.

Solar Panels on a Metal Roof

Installing solar panels on a metal roof is an excellent option for increasing a building’s sustainability. Both are eco-friendly with long service lives, so they are extremely compatible materials to utilize together.

Butler Systems

Senate is a certified Butler Builder, and we believe in the efficiency and sustainability of their state of the art systems – often recommending them to our clients. We have been very impressed by Butler’s commitment to incorporating environmentally sensitive materials and systems into their product lines.

Paint finishes

All paint finishes applied by Butler meet or exceed EPA regulations for low VOC paints. They are also factory applied to eliminate the air-quality issues related to field painting.

Energy-efficient systems

Butler offers a range of energy-efficient roof and wall systems that can achieve a thermal efficiency rating of R-40 or more if required.

Cool roof

Butler offers sustainable 25-year color finishes that meet the reflectance and emittance standards established by the energy codes for “cool roofs.” Butler cool roofs help mitigate the Heat Island Effect, which produces high relative temperatures in urban areas that contribute to smog formation.

Energy Star® rated

Highly reflective paint finishes made by Butler are also proven efficient by Energy Star® standards. Butler roof systems featuring the Energy Star label keep buildings cooler by increasing reflectance and reducing energy use, utility costs, and air pollution.

Proven sustainable roof system

The MR-24™ roof system is a material-efficient, recyclable, and long-life roof solution. It offers 38+ years of in-place, proven performance—with little or no yearly maintenance. Compared to traditional roofing materials, this superior roof system gives building owners unmatched peace of mind and lower cost of ownership today as well as into the future.

Retrofit roofing solutions

Butler offers reroofing options, which entails installing a new sustainable metal roof system over virtually any existing roof. Eliminating the tear-off of old roofing materials reduces the amount of waste going to landfills.

Koreteck® panelized building system

The Koreteck® panelized building system offers compelling sustainability attributes, including mold resistance and enhanced thermal performance. The superior performance of Koreteck is due to its solid non cavity composition, which replaces traditional stud wall construction.

At Senate, we know we must be sensitive to environmental concerns while also maintaining the budget and schedule. Choosing a Butler pre-engineered or conventional metal building ensures that we can offer our clients the best of both worlds every time.
